Description: Please read & note: This is a Rights holding DVD created & produced by me and is not factory made or sealed. I strive to produce the best DVD's possible from the sometimes VERY old Public Domain material. Films that are public domain are unpreserved and not professionally re-mastered. I re-master all of my films myself to the best possible quality achievable. My DVDs are not the quality of todays Modern DVDs or Bluray discs. If you are looking for this kind of quality then these discs are not for you. All pictures are actual screen captures from the DVDs. Please note this when purchasing, but also know that all of the films are very watchable. To keep my prices as low as possible all my DVDs are delivered in plain paper DVD sleeves and the DVDs title will be labeled on the back of the DVD envelope. This way you can write the contents of the DVD on the DVD yourself if you want to. (See picture). All of my DVD's come with a menu for easy film selection. Total runtime of this DVD is 65 minutes. Item specifics are: Film 1: "Master Hands" (1936) B&W Runtime 31 minutes Selected for the 1999 National Film Registry of "artistically, culturally, and socially significant" films. Excellent montage documentary which essentially builds an automobile from scratch. We watch as it starts from the foundry, pounding out metal for the cars, to screwing on nuts, to fitting everything in place. It's also an awesome showcase of the production line, and how mind-numbing it all must have been. A Must See! Classic "capitalist realist" drama showing the manufacture of Chevrolets from foundry to finished vehicles. Though ostensibly a tribute to the "master hands" of the assembly line workers, it seems more of a paean to the designers of this impressive mass production system. Filmed in Flint, Michigan, just months before the United Auto Workers won union recognition with their famous sit down strikes. Film 2: "From Dawn to Sunset" (1937) B&W Runtime 24 minutes This classic example of "capitalist realism" depicts a day in the life of Chevrolet workers in the U.S., while attempting to convince them that their own fortunes were inextricably linked to the fortunes of General Motors. An idealistic portrayal of the "typical work day" of the typical worker at the Chevrolet plants in cities around the nation. First the all male workers kiss their wives goodbye and leave for work, while a chorus sings about "the beginning of a perfect day". Then they work for a little while (but not long). This "typical work day" happens to be payday. The final sequence shows the workers going home, saying "hi" to their wives and kids, and going to bed, while a chorus sings about their "perfect" lives and how happy they are. The Chevrolet employees are supposed to be content with a steady job and enough money to feed the family; the mega profits that G.M. executives made off these robotized legions of "neighborly workmen" are never addressed. Beautifully made and a lot of fun to watch. Is it mere coincidence that 1937 was the year that sit-down strikes forced G.M. to recognize the U.A.W.? Film 3: "Achievement USA" (1955) FADED COLOR Runtime 10 minutes Achievement USA focuses on the production of General Motors' 50 millionth vehicle. To celebrate this, GM put on a whopper of a parade in 1955. This film has great coverage of the parade, with floats in styles they just don't make anymore, great production line scenes, and much back slapping by GM higher ups. Once again, being 1955, it's amazing how many people turn out to see such an event. I claim ownership and rights to this media. All the films on this DVD have been researched and are copyright free or the copyrights have expired due to non renewal.
