Geppetto pipes are hand made from the same high-grade briar as Ser Jacopo pipes, but the former do not use the plateau cuts that the latter does, which are more expensive; Geppetto pipes also tend to be simpler shapes, meaning they do not require the use of the highly technical flexible drilling machinery that Ser Jacopo’s wilder shapes do. Minimalist designs are all the rage these days, in the world of pipes. And you can’t really get any more minimalist than a poker. As pipe-makers such as Tom Eltang, Nording, and Paronelli have shown, there is a great appeal to the functionalist simplicity of poker shapes. With this pipe, Ser Jacopo’s Mastro Geppetto workshop seem to have offered their own interpretation of this trend.
