Walter Prescher van Ed (1916-1988) studied at the Art Academy in Dresden, where he was a student of K. Enderlein and P. Rössler. In 1948 he received the title of professor from the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin, and was then Associate Professor at the Dresden Art Academy. In 1961 he was a visiting professor at the College of Fine Arts in Nancy. Ed van Prescher was an honorary citizen of Montmartre. A true cosmopolitan, he felt most at home in Paris, France, where he had close friendships with great artists like Fernand Leger, Jacques Villon, Maurice Utrillo, Jean Cocteau, and Karel Appel, whose pupil he was and who he also painted. In Prague, he attended the master class of Oskar Kokoschka.
