Mean Well RD-125A 5 V 15 A/12 V 10 A dual output PSU power supply, UL, READ DESC

Description: Mean Well model RD-125A dual-output power supply, older hardware revision. Specifications Input voltage: 88–132 VAC or 176–264 VAC/248–373 VDC, selectable by switch Output rail #1: 5 V nominal, 4.75–5.5 V adjustable, 2–15 A; not to exceed total output power limit; note the minimum load Output rail #2: 12 V fixed, 0.5–10 A; not to exceed total output power limit; note the minimum load Output power: 130.9 W maximum, combined across both outputs Dimensions: 199 × 98 × 38 mm Minimum Load Requirement This power supply does not match the current datasheet from Mean Well, only an older datasheet. This power supply has minimum load requirements for each rail. In my testing, it seems to operate okay as long as both rails are loaded to the minimum specified. The power supply may happen to work sometimes with one or the other rail completely unloaded, but the voltage may be very much out of regulation, and you may hear terrible whining noises. I could not make this power supply work with no load drawn from either rail. Do not buy this power supply except for applications where you will always have at least a 2 A load on the 5 V rail, and always have at least a 0.5 A load on the 12 V rail. I tested the power supply upon receipt, found these problems, and found that they are NOT mentioned in the current datasheet. The minimum loads are disclosed in an older datasheet (dated 2018-01-12) that I found via the Wayback Machine. I can only assume that there is a newer hardware revision to explain why the current datasheet does not list these load minimums. Other than initial testing in 2019, and once again before writing this listing (including to take these measurements), this power supply is unused. I'm selling it in hopes that it finds a better home than a landfill. While this surprise with the datasheet revision is unfortunate, I generally trust the quality of Mean Well supplies. Therefore, I trust that this supply will work well, but only for applications which meet these minimum loads. When thinking about whether your application meets the minimum loads, don't forget to account for any low-power sleep modes your device(s) might go into, or whether either rail may ever have its load disconnected or turned off entirely.
