Description: Melocactus concinnus for sale here. Plant is in 4 inch pot with a short round stem that is near 4 inch in diameter and around 4-5 inch high. M. concinnus is one of smaller size Brazilian specie rarely offered for sale with a cephalium, (the curious bristly head of the plant, which is a specialized structure in which the flowers and fruits are borne and protected.). Pink buds of flowers sprout around and on top of the cephalium, providing additional color to the plant.The bodies of the plants are shaped like a sphere that has been squashed from above, or hemispherical, grey-green, up to 6 inch in diameter and high. Spines at first black or yellowish passing to grey with the exception of the darker tips. Cephalium fairly short, to 2-3 inch high and up to 4inch in diameter, with fine, dense, red bristles and cream-colored wool, which caps the vegetative part of the stem. The cephalia can become extremely hard and thick as these cacti get older. Flowers are deep pink, opens late in the after noon. Originally endemic to northern Brazil, Amazonas.Plant ships bare root.
