Description: Mexico 1863 Zs MO 2 Reales Issued at Zacatecas during the French Occupation of Mexico, here is an unusually nice silver 1863 2 Reales piece. Because Mexico was deeply in debt to France (as well as the U.K. and Spain), Emperor Napoleon III thought it best to send French troops over to help them pay up. In this he was aided by conservative forces in Mexico who wanted to reestablish a monarchy, which they got in the person of Austrian Archduke Maximilian, in 1864. Note: Any variation in toning visible in the photos is due only to reflections off the plastic in the coin holder. Surfaces are smooth and evenly toned, with no scratches.
