It just feels right for Meze to use wooden earcups for the second generation of their flagship closed-back LIRIC headphones. The design-focused company built their stellar reputation with wood headphones — and their homebase remains in the richly forested region of Maramures, Romania. These headphones boast the familiar design, planar drivers, and comfort that made the originals so popular. But Meze's added Macassor ebony — a dense hardwood used to give acoustic guitars projection and punch — along with some design touches and tuning tweaks. I received a sample right as these headphones launched before CanJam 2024, but I haven't had a chance to audition them. While I'll have full impressions soon, I can report now that the packaging and presentation is all Meze: timeless and instantly memorable.
