Description: the d51 is arguably the most famous steam locomotive in Japanese railroad history; it certainly was the most numerous. over 1000 were constructed between 1936 and 1945 primarily by Kawasaki Heavy Industries...used primarily in freight service, the "degoichi", the d51 nickname in japan, served for 40 years, ending its career primarily in Hokkaido island, where electrification of the mainlines occurred last among Japan's 4 main islands......this d51-1042's unique smokestack appearance identifies the locomotive as mounted with a giesl ejector, a design enhancement pioneered by the austrian engineer dr. adolph giesl-gieslingen in 1951.......the process utilized improved suction draught to enhance locomotive poser and to reduce coal usage.....the ki600 rotary snow plow series was copied from an american produced - arco co - rotary plow purchased in 1923 by the japanese railway ministry.....24 clones were produced between 1923 and 1949 primarily by the in house "naeho" factory......ki620 was built in 1948 by kisha seizo and assigned to the iwamizawa district near sapparo in hokkaido.....obsolescence for the ki 600 series was 1974....... Micro Ace is one of the dominant triumvirate of n scale manufactures in Japan - Kato and Tomix both being better known outside of Japan....Micro Ace clearly markets the broadest line of locomotives among the 3 and arguably features the finest detail work on their products. i acquired this set from a small reseller in japan who averred that the a0322 was a collector's item, subjected to only a test run at the time of purchase........upon arrival, the set appeared pristine; the outer box was relatively unblemished.....the inner jewel cases were unsullied and the models appeared comparatively little used........the locomotive test run revealed 30% on the rheostat for n scale factored running speed and smooth, consistent operation considering the motor technology extant on this set's release, 14 years ago.........the head lamp - a pre chip led - was comparatively vibrant..........the wheel sets on both the locomotive and snow plow unit displayed a patina of oxidation, which i treated with mineral spirits..........the impression of the model is of a collector's exhibition piece which needs utilization to prevent the continued onset of wheel set degradation...... the only accessory for the set, a rapido coupler for the front end of the locomotive is attached; the dummy coupler for the locomotive front end is present.........the model does include detailed instructions in japanese with pictures for proper arrangement of the plow operations........ one caveat: both ends of the paperboard master carton display color deteriorating attributable to ultraviolet exposure.......
