Description: the d51 is arguably the most famous steam locomotive in Japanese railroad history; it certainly was the most numerous. over 1000 were constructed between 1936 and 1945 primarily by Kawasaki Heavy Industries...used primarily in freight service, the "degoichi", the d51 nickname in japan, served for 40 years, ending its career primarily in Hokkaido island, where electrification of the mainlines occurred last among Japan's 4 main islands......the d51-906 was constructed in 1943 by mitsubishi heavy industries and features, besides the unique "dove" decoration on the side smoke deflectors and another chimney mounted deflector, a heavy oil reservoir behind the steam dome which provided augmented fire box fueling...... Micro Ace is one of the dominant triumvirate of n scale manufactures in Japan - Kato and Tomix both being better known outside of Japan....Micro Ace clearly markets the broadest line of locomotives among the 3 and arguably features the finest detail work on their products. i acquired this d51-906 from a small reseller in japan whose primary offering camera lenses and old coins and who asseverated that the model was a collector's item with little usage..... ......upon arrival, the d51's test run exhibited smooth and consistent performance in both directions at 28% on the rheostat for n scale factored operating speeds.....the head lamp is the dull orange characteristic of pre chip led technology, although the diameter of the lens itself is small......the wheel sets are pristine....... the only accessory for the set is a rapido coupler for the front end of the locomotive.......the protocol for its installation must be largely intuited as microace provides only a rudimentary sketch for guidance.....
