Description: Mimosa Tenuiflora is a fast growing ornamental hardwood tree that grows to 15’ tall with a 15’ spread, and abundantly produces white flowers that bees love. The honey harvested when the flowers are in bloom is nearly white, with a very fine, floral flavor. The bark of the tree has very powerful medicinal qualities, is also brewed into a tea to treat asthma, or ground into a fine powder and applied topically in some very high-end moisturizing creams. This tree species was previously known as Mimosa Hostillis for the very sharp thorns that cover its long, skinny branches and trunk, a characteristic that buyers and first time cultivators need to be very aware of. It has been reclassified “Tenuiflora” for the abundant white flowers that it produces. The tree is heat and drought tolerant, but NOT cold tolerant. Neither seedlings nor established trees will survive a frost. Tropical, sub-tropical and Mediterranean climates ONLY. Theoretically, this could be a very unique (though somewhat dangerous - careful of those thorrns!) house plant with a big enough pot, or possibly a bonsai, given enough sun exposure or artificial light. Seeds need to be scarified to germinate. Soak in very hot water, let stand till water cools, then fold seeds in a damp paper towel enclosed in a plastic zip lock bag. Germination within a week. These seeds were harvested October 2024. Stored refrigerated with desiccant. Germination rate should be very high, likely 100%. You will receive at least 25 seeds. (I’ve been including 2 or 3 extra seeds in the packages I’ve sent out.) They will be in a vacuum sealed packet, in a flat standard envelope.
