Description: Durkee's Famous Dressing and Meat Sauce (now known as Durkee Famous Sauce) was originally created by Eugene R. Durkee, the founder of E.R. Durkee & Co. Spice Dealers in Buffalo, NY, in 1857. It's a mustard-mayonnaise hybrid that's cut with a punch of vinegar and a "secret formula" of 12 undisclosed spices. It is still around today. Durkee salad dressing was very popular at the turn of the last century. We dug many of the large 7” size but the one we have here is much more special. This is the only one like this I have found. It starts at a 1 ¾” base with a hexagonal design that gently tapers to 1” screw top standing 4” high. On the three front panels it is boldly embossed "E.R. DURKEE & CO MANUFACTURERS NEW YORK.” This one has a ground top which puts it late 1890s or early 1900s. It is full of bubbles and the sun has turned it a dark amethyst. It is in dug condition with some inside haze, but some of the haze on the outside is iridescent making it wildly interesting. You need this one in your condiment collection. There is no damage.
