Description: PLEASE READ BEFORE MAKING A PURCHASE: This is a conversion kit that is intended for use on 1960?s vintage SG guitars which already have an existing 1960's Vibrola unit. The stock Vibrola unit must be partially disassembled and some its components re-used, including: the tailpiece bar, the Vibrola arm, and the cover. If your SG guitar currently does not already have a vintage sideways Vibrola unit, DO NOT BUY THIS KIT, because you will not have all of the necessary parts. Please refer to the color-coded diagram in the photos section to see which parts are and which are not included with this kit. MojoAxe VibroStop Sideways Vibrola Conversion Kit The sideways Vibrola unit installed onto the early 1960's Gibson SGs is notorious for causing tuning issues and in some cases making the guitars pretty much unplayable. The MojoAxe VibroStop Conversion Kit allows for an easy conversion of the stock Gibson sideways Vibrola unit to a solid stop type setup. The conversion is completely reversible and does not require that any permanent modifications be made to the guitar. Once the MojoAxe VibroStop conversion kit is installed, the guitar looks completely stock from the outside, however its tuning and playability will be better than it was when it left the Gibson factory. The MojoAxe VibroStop conversion tailpiece is precision CNC machined from aircraft grade 7075 tempered aluminum bar stock and it is plated with a nickel finish. The kit includes the conversion block, all necessary fasteners, and detailed instructions. Installation can be done with ordinary tools. During installation, the springs and moving linkage components of the stock Vibrola unit are removed and replaced with a single solid block. Once installed, the tuning stability is dramatically improved and on par with an ABR/stopbar setup. Additionally, the VibroStop increases the downward angle of the strings behind the bridge resulting in improved sustain and tone. The VibroStop has provisions which allow for the stock vibrato arm to be attached in a static, non-functional manner in order to maintain the guitar's vintage appearance. It is not necessary to install the arm and it may be omitted for easier access to the control knobs if desired. The VibroStop block attaches to the guitar using the same mounting holes as the original stock Vibrola. Looking at the bottom of the VibroStop block, you?ll see that it was carefully designed to have the exact same P-shaped "footprint" mounting surface as the stock Vibrola hinge plate, thus it will not make any new impressions into the lacquer finish of the guitar. Also included with the VibroStop kit is a copy of Gibson's original instruction sheet for setting up and adjusting the sideways Vibrola unit. This document is provided for future reference so that the guitar may be returned to factory specs in the event that the VibroStop block is uninstalled. The VibroStop is not compatible with the redesigned sideways Vibrola unit that is installed onto the recently reissue Gibson SG. The guitar shown is not included. Comments received from VibroStop customers: - Received my Vibrostop yesterday, and installed it right away. And of course I gave it a test play. My vintage SG became a whole different (and much better) guitar. Sustain was increased as was tonal clarity. Treble especially stood out more. For some reason pup output seemed to be higher. Now, I will actually PLAY this guitar, instead of keeping it as a closet queen. - Richard - The VibroStop is amazing. Great job! - Keith Nelson (Buckcherry) - I bought a Vibrostop for my 61 or 62 LP SG Standard. It was delivered yesterday, which was very fast delivery. I installed it yesterday, and have given it some "test plays". Here is my review, FWIW. Tone and sustain is TOTALLY improved. Clean sustain may well be the best of any guitar I own. Before, tone was dead, and sustain almost non-existant (IMO). Instructions were easy to follow.I recommend these without reservation to any owners of these guitars who feel that the stock sideways trem is sucking tone -- because I now know that it is. and has been doing so on my guitar for over 53 years. Because of what I considered tonal deficiencies on my SG, it has been a closet queen almost all of its life. That will be no more -- she will be played! It is my opinion that this Vibrostop gives better tone and sustain than if I had removed the stock trem and installed a stop TP. - Dolebludger - May be the best $125 I've spent! An absolute must for early SGs & fast shipping! ? eBay member antp-2014 - Wanted to let you know I installed the VibroStop, and played a 3-hour set yesterday with a band I am sitting in with; the SG held its tune better than ever, and as a bonus, I could see the volume and tone knobs! - Russ - I wanted to give you my impression of your new SG Vibrola Conversion Kit. I bought the kit to install on my 1960 ink-stamped SG Les Paul. The guitar is from the first batch of SGs produced by Gibson and has prototype-only features not found on regular production SGs. While it is a historically interesting guitar, it?s never been among my favorite instruments to play - I?ve suspected that its issues were largely due to the vibrola. The installation was simple and problem-free: start to finish, I?d be surprised if it took me more than ten minutes to remove and replace the old tailpiece. Immediately after the installation, I noticed that the break angle was greatly improved - I?d actually had problems with my high E string popping off of the saddle when the guitar was played heavily, but with the kit installed, no amount of heavy strumming could dislodge it. The better break angle and increased mass behind the bridge also improved sustain dramatically; my impression was that the overall sound of the guitar was much fuller and more articulate. In order to confirm this, I decided to A/B the SG against my PAF-equipped ?53/?58 Les Paul conversion. I?d compared the two instruments when I first acquired the SG, and it was noticeably quieter, with a flabbier sound and much less sustain. With the Conversion Kit installed, I was amazed at the improvement - the SG?s volume and sustain were obviously improved, nearly matching the Les Paul in both areas. Pick attack was greatly improved and there was no sense of the spongy, dark tone that had plagued the guitar before. I cannot tell you how happy I am that you decided to produce these - as cool as the sideways vibrolas look, they?ve never worked well and have always had tuning problems. Your kit addresses all of those issues and has made a demonstrable improvement in my guitar?s tone. I?ll be playing it much more frequently in the future. Congrats on another winner! ? David M I wanted to say I put the vibro stop in to my unplayable gibson 1961 sglp I just can't believe the difference I did read what you said about it but I wasn't sure what to expect amazing thanks for this I can actually play it for more than one song, even the tone has changed amazing - Gary G
