There are people with great ideas regarding FPV and the RC community. But the mess of wiring, How or where to mount the FPV camera, without worrying about a flip or crash. If loose mounted or say roof mounted. Your expensive FPV components won't last long. How to keep the VTX from overheating? when a VTX gets too hot, and they do, very fast. What happens is, immediate and permanent damage. And this doesn't take long, within minutes. These components are meant for drone applications. Where they are constantly being cooled by the air, in flight. My design, "Da System" incorporates dual cooling fans. One 5 volt and 12-volt egressing, pulling the heat directly from the VTX (Heat Sink) and at the same time pushing air, not allowing dust or dirt through. I have seen many people attempt doing this. I have seen some great RC FPV builds, ideas. But they choose the lower budget components. They invest all this time and work, to find. It isn't as easy as it may seem. It's not as simple as getting a camera/VTX and putting power to it. There is a list of items to deal with just to build and have the experience last longer than a few minutes. By taking all this time and money to find the actual images coming through are horrible and getting headaches from viewing through these cheaper analog type goggles, that are truly uncomfortable. And have no adjustments. No cooling options. So get all these bad ideas about FPV out your mind. The reason I am so adamant about getting this out is. I had no idea how this was going to work in the first place. while building a drone for customer, aside me was a 10th scale RC truck, my brother gave me. I had some extra FPV components lying around, when this thought came to mind. So, I ran with it, built a prototype and tried it out and LOVED the experience! So much that I bought myself a 3D printer, learned how to 3D AutoCAD, learned different types of 3D plastics and their applications. Researched different RC cars and trucks, which would be worth designing a platform for. Then designed and printed, then built! And here we are! 2 years of work here. First of its kind! This is a turnkey platform i designed. In this capsulated shell, protecting and containing the important components involved in this experience. To hide the mess of wiring involved, and strongly mount important items like the camera, and also the cooling fans needed to keep the VTX (video transmitter) and PDB (power distribution board) at cool and efficient operating temperatures. During winter or colder temperatures, the Slide Boxes can be replaced without Cooling Fan or bore/hole, to protect from those colder temps. (Refer to VTX's operating temp) As long as you are not running into concrete walls at 50 mph or attempting jumps out of the ordinary. 4 foot plus jumps, i'd say. This FPV platform, of my design. Comes with Gyro Flow for smoother recording and live play. Full range tests have not been performed with this from Drone designed platform to R.C. use. The tested range for this Walksnail VRX platform is, 4km or 2.48 miles. which will well exceed the range of the stock Traxxas transmitter. Which is about 2 football fields without obstruction. Im sure there are longer range transmitters for R.C.'s. and also sure that whatever transmitter mods out there. Will last upwards to 2 hours, or more,on one charge. Running the headlamps more like 90 minutes. These times are at minimum. How can one battery last so long? Well by using a Power Distribution Board. You are able to run just the right voltage and amps, by filtering through PDB. Giving important components like the VTX/VRX which can operate between 6 volts up to 25.2 volts. But is recommended to operate at 9-12 volts. There is also the Cooling Fans, one needing 12 volts the other 5 volts. Then you got the 12-volt headlamps, why 12 volt? because I could, lol. Because it is better! Best! Having the circuit protection (smoke stopper) So if things were to go bad, they won't get worse. The Smoke Stopper with indicator LED, showing in green is a piece of mind, knowing all interior components are running properly. If say a power cable was to ground out. Before any damage was done to an expensive component, the Smoke Stopper will immediately cut or limit excessive current to. stopping the full current to draw from reaching the vital components. Cooling fans are vital when it comes to FPV components like the VRX and or PDB. The VRX can get too hot, causing permanent damage. Utilizing a lower 5-volt Cooling Fan for the PDB (power distribution board) not as vulnerable crucial to such high temperatures. But is important to have all the components running smoothly and efficiently. There are 5 components involved to run this FPV platform. First the main Primary power, through the Smoke Stopper, through the PDB, then out to two individual cooling fans. Then most importantly, the VRX and camera. This is about a 10–12-hour process. Da System can be customized per build, using your own preferred FPV components. As well the platform itself be made in your choice colors. Da System consists of 4 parts, The Base, Left and Right Slide Box and Camera Slide. The top side of Base Plate can also be customized with a personal logo, via STL file. Da System build included is made in a white translucent PLA plastic, for good reason. When powering on Da System and its components. Each having very important indicator or status LEDS, showing through this translucent case. For the first time user, will be able to view. Power status, cooling fan status, power to components. As well the Binding and signal status between the VRX and FPV goggles. Very important for the first time user.. 1. And a peace of mind. I chose the Traxxas Unlimited Desert Racer, because of the amazing performance it provides. For such a platform of my design Da System, to go into! Before I even put the batteries and powered on this UDR. I researched all i could about preventative maintenance. What I could do to make this experience, longer played out, to say. Because, in this sport, Hobby, RC's,. Things break and things can get expensive! What I did before anything else was. Broke down the entire drive train of the UDR. Not all at once, I wouldn't recommend. Best one part at a time... By opening up then adding a waterproof gear grease. finding out through research and other experiences with their UDR's. At stock, they don't put enough grease for the the wear and tear these trucks receive. I went for about 75% full on both front and rear diffs... where at stock they were about 10 maybe 15% full of grease. I've seen many UDR owners suffer burning up rear and front differentials. After going through the entire drivetrain, adding grease and lubrication where needed. All metal-to-metal threading in the UDR using a medium strength (blue) Loc-tite. Also applying Loc-tite (blue) to those plastic connections at the more structural areas. Like the rear diff, and other areas that could tend to wobble loose, shocks and suspension. Also putting a flexible tape, reinforcing the inner side of the UDR Body. I did run this UDR for video, advertisement reasons. I ran it very cautiously, although after the first break in run. Finding it extremely easier to handle than thought at first would be. I really was wanting to push it a lot more than I did. After these advertisement runs, for the last time before packaging up. As stated above, I went through entire truck again then removing the used shocks and installing brand new GPM piggyback shocks, in Fox orange. The motor and ESC are still in great shape, but for some reason they do go bad. You will have a entire new Traxxas, motor, ESC, combo, with wires, to install. Also, a new (Full Set) Fast Eddys, bearing set. Tools needed are also included. Manuals, how to, Software/FPV Goggles The above package is I guess what one would call Plug and Play, or Turnkey. Literally speaking, everything is ready to go! I take back, with one exception. Charging up the Traxxas Unlimited Desert Racer's batteries and the Lipo batteries for "Da System" and Fatshark Dominator goggles. The Binding process for Traxxas transmitter to UDR are obviously done. The binding process through Camera/VTX and FPV goggles are also established, bound together. As well all software, firmware, matching firmware, between the FPV goggles and VTX are done completed. These updates should leave you good for years, if not for good. But in a case end up with a software issue (very rare in this case, this is a stand-alone product and not tied to other systems to complicate) or glitch. "Da System" and its Slide Box, does retract open. And only needs slid open 15mm to access the USB port (USB-C to USB cord provided) and easily update yourself if needed. Being this is kind of a new thing, I will offer tech support for reasonable issues, like a firmware/software update and basic how to's. But I would encourage the new owner to look into the online tutorials for the items like. "How to basic operation of FPV goggles" which one would probably do anyway buying or using for the first time. The goggles, Fatshark Dominator HD. Should be the most complicated item of this entire package. The goggles come with a built-in display and is pretty straight forward. Examples. Screen Brightness, Color, Screen Ratio, Record On/Off. By the way, aside for the cooling fans built in the goggles. The lenses or diode, each, independently can be adjusted. For eye width seperation adjustment. To narrowing or widening each lense to the perfect vision desired. An awesome feature! The Traxxas Unlimited Desert Racer manual is included,with parts list, breakdown. Otherwise its as simple as power on and enjoy! Please use Caution while operating By all means use caution while driving this Pro Stock, 1/7th scale RC truck. Weighing in at close to 14 pounds and as stated will run 50 plus mph. Recommended for 14 plus years of age. Please use your best discrepancy while operating around other persons and or crowds. What I did was find the open area, then i mapped out a track, using little RC cones to make the lanes or roads easier to see.
