Release Date: 1956 Entered the Public Domain: 1985 Film 2: RFD Greenwich Village (1969) COLOR Runtime 11 Minutes Groovy Cotton + Greenwich Village = Shagadelics. Quite possibly the only fashion travelogue you'll ever see, this gem mixes shots of Greenwich village with uh, "natives" (read bad actors) pretending to be "bohemian" while wearing the up-to-the-minute cotton Nehru Jacket and hideous green print shirt from such fashion dynamos such as Glen Of Michigan. Similar to Greenwich Village Sunday. Release Date: 1969 Entered the Public Domain: 1998 Film 3: Greenwich Village Sunday (1960) Faded COLOR Runtime 12 Minutes Exploration of the colorful counterculture of Greenwich Village in the early 1960s. Narrator: Jean Shepherd. This laid-back early-60s film shows us street life in Greenwich Village on a Sunday. We see such things as sidewalk art displays, folksinging in the circle, and beatniks reciting poetry. This definitely brings back a memorable time and place, giving us a glimpse of the birth of the 60s counterculture. One rather silly aspect of the film is a prim woman in a striped dress and little white gloves who appears in almost every scene and reacts to things as if she was on Mars (though with a smile on her face). Lois Nettleton was the prim lady in this film. Release Date: 1960 Entered the Public Domain: 1979 Film 4: Amateur film: Greenwich Village, New York Snowstorm, and Coney Island (1944) SILENT COLOR Runtime 14 Minutes A delightful SILENT home movie, in color, of activities in and around New York City in 1944. It starts out at a Greenwich Village art fair---where the art is just as dreadful and any in a modern art fair! Then we see a brief glimpse of a thoroughfare along the East River---almost devoid of cars---gasoline rationing! We then go to Coney Island where we see many soldiers and sailors relaxing at the beach. In the odd custom of those days, men dressed up to go to an amusement park---three-piece suits and ties to go to Coney Island? Then it's back to Greenwich Village after a blizzard. All in all, a fascinating film---the color makes it almost like stepping back into time. Release Date: 1944 Entered the Public Domain: 1973 I claim ownership and rights to this media.
