Description: Estate Find AntiqueFrench Bayeux PorcelainTable Lamp We offer a petite table lamp which began as an oil lamp in France. The body of our lamp is French Bayeux porcelain from the second half of the nineteenth century. Bayeux porcelain is noted for its rich cobalt blue coloration, gilding and hand painted reserves. The oil lamp retains its metal bronze colored base and upper collar. An early twentieth century electrical conversion added two bulbs on an adjustable shade post. A mid century adjustment added a bright brass Japanese lotus shaped lamp base. The porcelain body features two hand painted floral reserves on white grounds. One reserve is encircled with a wide band of honey gold. Two white and gilded rococo handles project from the sides. The remaining areas of the porcelain is in rich cobalt blue. Elaborate gilding highlights the ovoid shape of the body. The lamp measures 24" in height to the finial, 17 5/8" to the top of the light bulb sockets and 10 1/2" to the floral metal lamp cap. The porcelain body measures 7" in height, 4 3/4" in width and 5 1/4" in width handle to handle. The lotus lamp base measures 6" in diameter. The table lamp weighs 6 pounds 7.8 ounces. As seen in the photographs, there is minor age appropriate rubbing to the gilt trim. Overall the lamp is in very good antique condition.
