Description: Norman Rockwell Jester Lithograph Signed Original AP Illustration Artist Proof. Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) Jester,1939 Cover illustration for The Saturday Evening Post (February 11, 1939) Media print lithography on paper This nine-color lithograph, measuring 25 by 20.5 inches, was hand proofed and printed at Atelier Ettinger in November of 1976. The edition consists of 320 impressions on papier d'Arches. 200 were numbered and 60 artist proofs were signed in pencil by Norman Rockwell. Originally created for the February 11, 1939 Saturday Evening Post cover, Jester is a typical post cover that strived to depict a single situation. However, Rockwell found it more interesting to paint complex feelings. Jester is an example of Rockwell creating a single situation with conflicting emotions. The jester's sad face clashes with his responsibility of bringing happiness to others. Comes with letter of appraisal from Robert Sills, Gallery, Inc., Hollywood, California
