Description: Notocactus leninghausii is native to Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It grows at elevations of 980 - 4,260 feet above sea level. In habitat numerous subpopulations have been completely destroyed. Notocactus leninghausii is a highly prized cactus for its golden, hairy spines that take on a beautiful, electrified glow. And then come their stunning, silky yellow flowers. Flowers bloom numerous times annually. This species takes on a columnar form, but only reaches a mature height of 3'. It begins to branch with a clustering formation starting later on as it ages. It is hardy down to approximately 15°F - 20°F, however, It is best to avoid any frost. Use a well-draining soil and slowly move from filtered light to full sun (only avoid the strongest summer sun). When placed in darker environments, this species tends to become overly lush and potentially rot prone. Additionally, flowers will likely not form. During the winter months, keep nearly entirely dry. Ships well packaged, bare root, with a nice soil-encased root ball.
