Description: Normal 0 false false false PL X-NONE X-NONE Beautiful Watch In Excellent Condition! This is a classic beautiful automatic stainless steel Omega Seamaster Calendar model with a fully original cream dial from 1978. The watch was fully serviced on 6th September 2024. Omega Seamaster was introduced in 1948 as one of three ‘Master’ watches for special missions. The mission here would be underwater. As we all know, Seamaster eventually was also worn by a very special 007 agent. The Seamaster model was in essence an evolution from the rugged pilot’s watch produced earlier for RAF and many other air forces. It was supposed to be capable of withstanding rough use and still remain stylish. Calibre 1010 is one of the most appealing to Omega enthusiasts on account of it still containing a movement that was entirely manufactured in-house by Omega itself. A bit later on, in the 1980s, Omega would cease to produce its own movements and instead purchase these from third-party sources. This is one of the most distinctive and unique models and has been in production for twelve years (1972-1984). Interestingly, it was retailing at £125 in 1978 when shipped to the shops. Omega introduced the movement 1010 in 1972 and designed it to run at the rapid rate of 28800 half beats per hour. The 1000 series of calibres, of which this 1010 is one, are rightly regarded as classics today by vintage watch enthusiasts. Designed by Kurt Vogt these were the first calibres equipped with a rapid date corrector allowing the date to be changed without moving the hands and with a stop-seconds system to accurately set the time to the radio signal. Over one million pieces of this family were produced but only 178,000 of this calibre. The watch measures 35.5mm without the crown and 40mm lug to lug. The caseback has reference No. 1660203. The first three digits stand for: 1 - Gent’s watch, 6 – Self-winding centre second, and 6 – Water Resistant Calendar. If we look very carefully, above the model reference, there is the tiny maker’s mark LL - a coded emblem of Louis Lang, the firm that manufactured this case. In common with Rolex, IWC, Jaeger LeCoultre and its other close competitors, Omega was not a manufacturer of watch cases and instead purchased these from a small network of third-party suppliers that specialised in this field. The cream-white fully original dial has silver-black faceted reliefs as hour markers with the silver original Omega ‘Pencil’ hands and silver seconds hand. The original crown is signed with the Omega logo. This watch has an acrylic crystal typical for the era. A brand-new blue leather strap complements the look. The watch will arrive in a new presentation box. We give the future owner a 3-month warranty for peace of mind. Please study the pictures carefully as these are at great magnification and show all the flaws that second-hand watches always have.
