Description: 1967 One Penny Coin - Queen Elizabeth II 1d Britannia pre-decimal British penny. I have many of these. So the coin received may differ than that in picture but will be of same quality. Final Pre-Decimal Penny 1967 pennies were issued in the years leading up to decimalisation. Although the decision had been taken in 1966 to decimalise the currency, there was a need to mint pennies in huge quantities before they would be rendered obsolete. Consequently, all pennies minted between 1967 and D-Day were dated 1967 to lessen the impact of hoarding by nostalgic members of the public who were painfully aware that soon the currency they had known from their childhoods would disappear forever. These pennies saw circulation for no more than four years before they were withdrawn. For these reasons, 1967 pennies in uncirculated condition are extremely common. There were 654,564,000 1967 pennies issued. Copper or Bronze? The coins are made from bronze; an alloy predominantly made from copper (97%), mixed with tin (0.5%) and zinc (2.5%).
