Laaz Rockit had a good East Bay draw, but promotor Weller had an "ACE" up his sleeve METALLICA.... His Imported Heavy guest from LA. Weller the promotor for BGP & The Keystone Family had cleared the booking on his Reputation, and no one in the Bay Area outside of a handful college radio fans in SF even knew what Metallica was all about. "The Hit The Lights" "Demo" had gotten some late night plays, but as front box office mgr Toni Isabella said to Weller mid afternoon are these Metallica guys going to show up? Then Weller got the word Metallica was downstairs with their van, ready to load in, that was a major relief! Out of a dirty old van loaded with drum kit and some rag tag Marshalls popped Lars, James, Rob, and Future Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine.We all shook hands, and I showed the single road crew guy where to load in.The Band and I took the freight elevator up to the club, they saw the stage, and I showed them their dressing room. METALLICA was in the Old Waldorf!!!!Safe to say they Smoked the Laaz Rockit, Weller the promoter was spot on!
