Description: This is an original August 1982 issue of Playboy Magazine (subscription edition), and it's part of a trove of magazines we retrieved from a longtime collector. He kept his collection in the basement, and the condition of individual issues ranges from Superb (the CGC equivalent of a 9 or 10) to "space filler" (a CGC 1 or 2). We are listing the issues individually, so we are able to make issue-specific notes regarding condition and content below. Please note that combined product amounts over $35 on a single order from our store get a shipping rebate. The cover of the August 1982 issue is graced by Playmate Vicki McCarty (September 1979) in her only solo appearance on cover. Very often the July or August cover art would be used in advertisements for the magazine in future years, causing those covers to become somewhat iconic, and this is one such cover. Ms. McCarty and her custom shades were featured on countless subscription ads in the early-to-mid 1980s, as well as anytime the magazine wanted to show an exemplary cover that was on-brand without being overtly sexual. The sole pictorial this month is one on actress and impressionist Marilyn Michaels, who was having her more-than-15-minutes of fame as a female version of Rich Little. This pictorial sees her dressed up and made up to look like some famous female celebrities of the times. No other items are listed as pictorials in the table of contents, but there are some photo-rich articles on "Summer Sex '82" and "California Girls". The sole fiction contribution this issue comes from Robert Silverberg, and there is also a "20 Questions" article asked of actress Mariette Hartley. Other content includes the usual cartoons and humor, as well as articles on actor Peter O'Toole, the scourge of easy-listening music, and discussion of the revelation from sex researchers that orgasms can last hours. The centerfold is Cathy St. George, and the interview is with Sony co-founder and chairman Akio Morita. Sony had introduced the first (easily) portable tape player three years before — the Walkman — and this year had introduced a new format for storing music (the compact disc, or CD). The condition of this issue is, in our opinion, a solid 7. The wear/handling might best be characterized as "light", though there are some vertical creases on the front cover (please see our photos). The back cover is unusually clean. All pages are present (including the centerfold), the binding staples are secure with no tearing around them, and there are no major creases, folds, or dog-ears on the inside pages — they are, in fact, virtually pristine. We feel this specimen would be a solid addition to any collection, either in its own right or as a "reader" — you know, the one you take out to enjoy while your pristine 9 or 10 sits safe in its archival sleeve. Speaking of which, all our issues are shipped in protective polybag sleeves.
