Description: ONE STRIKING ORIGINAL WATERCOLOR PAINTING This listing features an original watercolor painting created by a gifted artist. I can't read the artist’s signature and I have no information to share about the title or date. What matters most with any work of art is skill, experience, talent, and the power of a vision. All are abundant in this dramatic image. Not a single brush stroke shows hesitation and that is everything with a watercolor. The image measures 22 inches tall by 29 inches wide and was painted on a sheet of lighter weight hand-torn Arches Aquarelle cold-pressed watercolor paper (22 x 30 1/4). The French papermaker impresses its mark on two corners of every sheet and watermarks a corner. (please see detail photos). Master paper makers in the Vosges region of France still make this paper by hand in a mill exactly like the first sheet was made in 1492. I’ve been a mixed media artist for 47 years and Arches is the only paper l use. I also tear my paper. It is the “holy grail” of water media paper and one of the costliest. Based on the watermarks, this piece was torn by hand from a larger sheet. Few amateur painters work this large from a roll of Arches and they don't tear paper this well without training and years of practice. Beginners don't learn watercolor on Arches either. They know they’ll be messing up lots of paper so they start out on the cheapest paper they can find. Artists who tear their own paper from an Arches roll don’t mess up. They know what they’re doing and what they’re doing is worth owning. This painting is a valuable original work of art made by a classically trained artist. The signature is located on the image in the lower right-hand corner. The paper edges were taped before painting and removed when finished. Experienced artists choose to do this for many reasons, usually with sizable work. It is in outstanding condition. There is no buckling in the paper because it was properly prepared before painting. The reverse is clean and unmarked. One of the interesting things about this piece is that it can be hung in any direction. The signature is small enough that it is not an obvious point of reference and the composition is magical from any direction it is viewed. A framer needs only to wire it to hang in four positions. Be sure to ask the framer to use acid-free (conservation) materials, To keep a watercolor painting in this condition, it must be framed under glass and hung in a place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Doing so will greatly prevent fading, buckling, and eventual deterioration.
