Description: A very elegant and high quality pair of French late 19th century patinated bronzes signed Clodion. Each bronze is of a maiden in classical dress; one is next to a tree stump, pressing grapes into a bowl and the other next to an eagle, seems to be pouring the contents of an urn into a bowl. Exceptional execution and detail with all original rich patina throughout. They are mounted on beautiful yellow marble bases. At some point these lamps had been professionally drilled in back of head and near base to attach lamp parts to electrify them. I believe its very possible to fill the holes and add a bronze stain if you want to, or rewire them professionally. Truthfully they display beautifully and are exquisite. Claude Michel Clodion, aka Clodion (December 20, 1738 – March 29, 1814), was a Master French sculptor in the Rococo style. His work is very desirable. I have had them for over 10 years and enjoyed displaying them immensely. A pair of these sold several years ago for around $16,000. I am pricing them with Free shipping included- for USA only -in 2 separate boxes as I want to make sure they will be well packaged for a safe arrival. If you are outside the USA please contact me before purchasing as shipping will be quite a lot. They are large and heavy.
