Description: This book is an attempt to reconcile Rabbinic Judaism and Pauline Christianity written by W. D. DAVIES--the book was published in 1958 in Great Britain and is a Second Edition with additional notes and Second Printing--it's a HARDCOVER with the ORIGINAL DUSTJACKET. This book is in excellent condition and the book itself has some underlining on the first 85 pages of the book and a small torn spot on the upper right edge of the blank first page but NO other significant flaws; the dustjacket has a torn spot on the lower left corner of the back cover and lower right of the back inner flap, small tears and dings on the spine tips, a couple of slight creases on the upper edge, small tears on the upper corners of the back surface, light wear and a fwe light scuffs on the spine edge, a tiny price written on the upper right corner of the front inner flap and just light shelfwear otherwise but no other significant flaws! The book is titled Paul and Rabbinic Judaism: Some Rabbinic Elements in Pauline Theology and it was written by W. D. DAVIES; it was published by S. P. C. K. in London in 1958 and is a 2nd Edition and 2nd Printing copy. The main object of these studies is in demonstrating that despite the Hellenistic elements in his thought, Paul of Tarsus stood within the main current of first-century Rabbinic Judaism, and is best understood as a Pharisee who had come to accept Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah. The Apostle remained, as far as was possible, a practicing Jew who agonized over his people, and never lost his sense of oneness with the "Old Israel," whilst in his theology it was to Rabbinic concepts that he chiefly turned in his wrestling to interpret Christ and the Christian life. Pauline Christianity, it is contended, is not the antithesis of Rabbinic Judaism but its fulfillment "in Christ." A fantastic find, and a beautiful copy of this book!
