Description: FOR SALE: Sophos SG 125 eight-port Gigabit router/firewall running pfSense. The device is implemented in a desktop form factor, but can be rack-mounted (Sophos makes rack mounting kits for it). To decouple the device from the manufacturer’s licensing and services, we installed and configured pfSense, an open-source operating system for networking equipment. The device is running on a 64-bit Intel Atom C2358 processor (supports both AES-NI crypto and QAT crypto) with 4 GB RAM. The sole storage device is a 64 GB Transcend SSD. There are two sets of network interface cards with four ports each, Intel i354 and Intel i211. The device is actively cooled; under normal working conditions, the fan is very quiet. During installation, we configured the Ethernet ports to match labeling on the device’s case. (Needless to say, all these settings are changeable.) The buyer will receive detailed configuration notes so the device can be put to work right out of the box. In our estimation, this device is a good choice for a home, a home lab or a small business. The device is in very good physical condition (please review the photos; note that we are listing multiple devices, so the device pictured may or may not be the device you receive). A power supply unit with a threaded coupling (no more accidental unplugging!) is included.
