THE FIRST STATION OF THE NAME OPENED SOUTH OF THE PRESENT LOCATION ON 13 JUNE 1864 AS PART OF THE METROPOLITAN RAILWAY EXTENSION TO HAMMERSMITH. THE PRESENT STATION REPLACED IT ON 1 APRIL 1914. FROM 1 OCTOBER 1877 UNTIL 31 DECEMBER 1906 THERE WERE ALSO DIRECT SERVICES TO RICHMOND.
