Description: Johann Sebastian Bach, Pierre Fournier – Suites For Unaccompanied Violoncello - No. 3 In C Major, BWV 1009 / No. 4 In E Flat Major, BWV 1010 Archive Production ARC 73187 198687 SAPMVery Rare. I wish this record was in better shape it plays with no skips the amazing playing of Fournier shines through. There is surface noise through out. This was given to me by an Classical enthusiast after I said I liked Casals Bach Solo Cello Suites. Pierre Léon Marie Fournier (24 June 1906 – 8 January 1986) was a French cellist who was called the "aristocrat of cellists" on account of his elegant musicianship and majestic sound. The six Cello Suites, BWV 1007–1012, are suites for unaccompanied celloby Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750). They are some of the most frequently performed solo compositions ever written for cello. Bach most likely composed them during the period 1717–1723, when he served as Kapellmeister in Köthen. The title given on the cover of the Anna Magdalena Bach manuscript was Suites à Violoncello Solo senza Basso (Suites for cello solo without bass).
