Here is a genuine fossil from a giant marine reptile of the Dinosaur Age. It is a genuine 8.3” fossil vertebra from a plesiosaur, species Zarafasaura oceanis, from the early Cretaceous living with the dinosaurs, 89 to 94 million years ago. From the phosphate beds near Khouribga, Morocco. It weighs 1 lb. 2.9 oz.. (535 grams).A couple of pieces had to be glued together during excavation, as can be seen in the photos. With dinosaurs as well as these ancient creatures, this is not considered damage. In fact, the vast majority of dinosaur and plesiosaur bones on exhibit in museums were from pieces glued together. Plesiosaurs were aquatic carnivorous reptiles ranging from 6’ in length to 40’. They had small heads, long necks (often extremely long), broad, flattened bodies, short tails and large flippers or paddles. Their heads had a huge number of sharp teeth. In fact their necks were so long, for years, paleontologists were attaching the skull to the end of their tails, figuring the necks to be the actual tails.Not all plesiosaurs lived in the oceans and seas, but most did. Some lived in brackish and freshwater. The first plesiosaurs lived during the Triassic 203 million years ago, and the last died out in the K-Pg extinction 66 million years ago.We invite you to visit our store.
