TAGLINE : "Saving the world from witches is a tall order for a boy they've turned into a mouse!" - A young boy stumbles onto a witch convention and must stop them, even after he has been turned into a mouse. A recently orphaned young boy is taken to a seaside hotel in England by his grandmother, who is recuperating after an illness. Also staying at their hotel is a group of witches who have gathered to prepare a plot to rid England of all children. The last film that Jim Henson personally oversaw. The film was released in the United Kingdom on 25th May 1990 over a week after the death of executive producer Jim Henson who died on May 16th 1990. However, Henson did view the positive responses from test screenings in February 1990. VIEWER COMMENT : "I have always thought this was a great movie since I was little. It was one of those movies that you'd go over to see at grandma's on Halloween. It is just the right amount of "scary" for a kid, 'fear' but not enough to make nightmares. It's a wonderful movie for kids and adults, both, enjoy!" BEHIND THE SCENES TRIVIA : Warner Brothers, who bought the film after the original production company Lorimar went out of business, shelved the film for over a year before authorizing test screenings in Florida in February 1990. Despite the positive reception at the test screenings, it didn't get its debut until May 25, 1990 in the United Kingdom, and was initially scheduled to open in the United States on the same day. Yet Warner Brothers postponed the American release even further to August, though giving it a hefty promotional push, in hopes of attracting a large audience of youngsters on vacation from school.
