Description: We bought this piece from an auction house that was selling museum pieces. A tag inside the vessel suggested it was recovered from Southern Arizona. However, the auction house described the piece as Columbian. To us, the geometric design most closely resembles prehistoric Casas Grandes pottery. We consulted an archaeologist with experience in the area and he agreed. The solution? We've decided the auction house meant "Pre-Columbian" and not the modern-day country of Columbia. As for Southern Arizona...maybe. The pieces resembles prehistoric pottery recovered from what are now the pueblos of the Southwestern U.S. and Northern Mexico. So, we are atributing this polychrome effigy vessel to that area (Mogollon culture). It measures about 7.5" from head to tail and is about 5" tall. Please note that we do not import or export ancient items. Additionally, our items typically come from people and businesses that we know and trust. We tend to avoid buying from unknown sources or individuals because we cannot guarantee that they have obtained their inventory through legitimate means. Our listings are researched prior to posting and our descriptions are informed by our own knowledge and experience as well as by the vendors from which we obtain our inventory. Thus, our titles and descriptions are our opinions as to the nature and history of the object for sale. Even so, we welcome discussions and questions PRIOR to purchase.
