Press Photo Central Avenue Circa 1903-1906, Downtown St. Petersburg, Florida Gone are the days when a young man sat in his girlfriend's parlor and looked through the family's picture album. But many a family still keeps an album and many of the pictures still tell an interesting story of the family's history and development. In looking through such an album of pictures on St. Petersburg the other day, we came upon these which we enjoyed and thought our readers might also. Top left, is a photograph of a painting of what the city looked like in 1903. Basically the downtown area is accurate, but some of the houses on the perimeter might have been added for effect. Above, is the city's first open-air post office, built on the northeast corner of Fourth Street and Central Avenue in 1906. Bottom left, is a 1903 picture of the Hamilton family (no first names) on the porch of their home. Below, is a picture of Central Avenue taken around 1903 to 1906. Photo measures 2.5 x 2 inches.
