For NTSC USA region console, this chip unlocks JP + USA Games and Backups to play - region free play as well. For NTSC Japanese (NTSC-J / NTSC-JP) consoles only: These chips only unlock Backup play. It's a limitation of the PS1 Japanese system bios. Supposedly some JP consoles will work on region unlock mode (later models) but i have been unable to confirm which ones. JP console owners, please do your own research first before buying it. I am unable to confirm JP region unlock for all models. Yours may work, it may not - later revision consoles supposedly do work. Otherwise you'll need to replace your bios with a USA one. It will bypass all newer modchip detection routines found in some of the newer games. This mod will require basic soldering experience, however at most all you need to do here is solder in 6-7 wires depending on PS1 Version. This Mod Chip comes fully assembled otherwise.
