The masks are Punu masks that represent idealized female ancestors' faces. The mask is genderless; normally white is a symbol of peace, deities, spirits of the dead, and the afterlife. The masks are typically oval in shape, with narrowed eyes, arched eyebrows, and small ears. Male dancers are known to wear masks while dancing.
