Here is a gorgeous genuine fossil Belemnite from the Jurassic seas of today's Holzmaden, Germany. It lived about 180 million years ago. The wonderful thing about this particular belemnite is that much of its surface has been pyritized, as you can see in thee photos. The species name was Acrocoelites, measuring about 2.25 inches in length on its natural plate which measures about 6.6" by 2.7" (varies, these are the longest dimensions). The plate weighs 9.65 oz. Belemnites were marine cephalopods that resembled squid, and ate other marine animals.We invite you to visit our store.
