Description: This rare 1910s "Union Leader” litho lunch pail tobacco tin, measuring 4 1/8” x 7 3/4” x 5 18”, is in good condition with no rust, some small lid dents and some minor age related paint scratches and chips. The hinge, latch and handle are in excellent working order. There is a fragment of the manufacturer's advertising paper band. This very attractive bright red tin, features a gold American Bald Eagle with outspread wings. The tobacco was manufactured by the P. Lorillard Tobacco Company, Jersey City, NJ in Factory 21, District of MD. Pierre Lorillard started the "Union Leader" brand in the early 1800s. It became the leading cut plug brand by the turn of the Century. American Tobacco Company acquired the brand in 1890.
