RARE 2nd Series PAUL WANER, 1963 Baseball HOF Plastic Replica Bust, NM, no Box

Description: I have listed 17 different statues of the 20 1963 MLB Hall of Fame plastic busts for sale, 10 from the First Series (plus 3 dupes), and 7 of the more rare Second Series (with one dupe). The figures are replicas of busts given during induction ceremonies at Cooperstown. The Hall of Fame commissioned a Long Island based company (Sports Hall of Fame, Inc.) to make miniature replicas of 20 of the busts, with plans to do more in the future. That future never came. The plastic statues are 6” tall and were sold in cello wrapped boxes through the HOF Gift Shop and their catalogue. They were also sold at ballparks and at most of the toll booths along the NY Thruway for a limited time. Fewer were made of the second series of 10, probably because of weak demand for Series One. They were never intended to last over 60 years, so the boxes available today are “survivors”, with very few in good shape now. The cellophane wrap is missing on most. Today, figures in an original box wrapped in cellophane bring very high prices. Figures accompanied with a “used” box are usually worth more than ones without, but condition of the 60-year old boxes varies greatly, generally at the lower end of the scale. And, the boxes were never identified as to which player was originally sold inside. The boxes are differentiated only by the color of top – either gold or silver. Gold appears more common, but I have no idea why. I started collecting these in 1993, but am selling them now to downsize my collection of sports related figurines as I age. Nevertheless these are unique pieces to add to your collection and were really well done at the time. This HOF Replica Bust is listed as "Used", but I have attempted to evaluate the approximate condition of each as fairly as possible and note it in the individual “Listing Title”. Some have marred surfaces in the base wording, but most of the actual figures are still very nice, with no cracks, scratches or repairs. Please closely examine the photos to see exactly what you are looking to purchase. The photos are a critical part of the Condition Description. There is no original box with this one, but the figure will be packed very carefully, enclosed in multiple layers of bubble wrap and protected by a new heavy duty cardboard box.
