Description: Rare Antique Wood & Paper Postage Stamp Box with 4 Compartments c1890. This is a very rare stamp box, designed to sit on a desk. It is has a wooden body that has been covered on the out side with a brown marbled paper. The lid has a central romantic rural image in sepia tones that is framed by the floral embossed and marbled paper. The base has a black leather textured paper. The sloping lid hinges open to reveal four compartments. The interior is lined with brown leather textured paper. I believe that there was once ribbon or cord inserted into the metal bound spaces in the lid and into the walls separating the compartments. The stamp box has age related wear and scuffs to the exterior. There is a water mark to the interior of the lid. The stamp box measures approx. 12.6cm by 5.2cm by 3.6cm. A rare collectable stamp box.
