Box 257 Port Reading New Jersey Dear Mr. Miller, I have been out of Rome for several weeks. This is why only today I am able to answering your letter dated October 3, 1977. When I was back in Rome I found the old book about Peary you kindly sent me. It is a valuable addition to my polar ex-pedition books and I have collocated it near the Dr. Rawlin's book. In this year I have been very busy in preparing two new books and in revising the book MY POLAR FLIGHTS which in my opinion gives a nice account of the polar expeditions: the "Norge" and the "Italia". I believe that I have already sent you my last book "WINGS OVER THE NORTH POLE". If not, let me know, I will send you it at ence. Next year it will take place in Italy several comme- morations of the "Italia" expedition. When the program will be defini-tively established I will let you know. Merry Christmas and a happy new year. Umberto Nobile -------------------------------------------------- Umberto Nobile (b.1885-d.1978) was born in 1885 in Lauro, Italy. As General of the Corps of the “Genio Aeronautico”, engineers of Military Aeronautics, he became famous to the public for accomplishing the first flight across the North Pole on board of airship Norge on May 11,1926, designed and piloted by him. The same flight was repeated in 1928, on board his airship Italia, however this flight ended in tragedy resulting in a world wide rescue effort.
