Description: Antique Early Variant Model 1816 Bayonet. This one measures 18.75" overall with a blade length of 15.75", with a inside diameter of .850" from the back, and .823" from the front. The socket is open on the bottom area which makes this a pre-1816 bayonet. The ricasso area is stamped, US stamped over Inspector Initials. Below that, there is a "L" stamped.This unusual M1816 variant has a highly unusual shank configuration, with the front rising almost straight up from the front of the socket. Significant is the lack of a bridge which may indicate a very early production. Excellent condition overall with light age patina. See photos for further details. See our other Items at TR-West
