Description: OWN A PIECE OF HISTORY! This is a rare opportunity to own a truly one-of-a-kind bronze full-realism sculpture by Nicholas Bubash. This is the ONLY Bengal Tiger in this series that was actually cast. And for anyone who has followed his career, you know his work is typically not in the realism genre. This is an early piece, going on 25 years old. Note the incredible texturing and realism in the muscling. Nick was noted for his extraordinary success as a tattoo artist - considered now as one of the founders of modern American tattooing - as well as for his multi-media and avant garde sculptures, and print art. He attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, graduating with highest honors and multiple awards. I met Nick in the late 80s, in the early years of his work as a tattoo artist. He had opened a studio in McKees Rocks, PA, near Pittsburgh. I had seen and fallen in love with some of his original sculptures. Nick and I formed a plan to add a series of bronze sculptures he would create that I would market through an art-as-an-investment company I had started at that time, called “International Fine Arts Exchange”. It was to be a series of endangered species. The first sculpture he completed in the series was an Asian elephant (last picture in this listing). The second in the series was this Bengal tiger. Long story short, my company folded and we had sold only the one elephant. Nick kept the second elephant casting (the last picture in this listing is the actual piece). We had cast only ONE Bengal tiger (numbered it #18 of #35, believing the lowest numbers would sell the best) in anticipation of successful sales, starting with the elephant. So this is the ONLY Bengal Tiger in this series by Nicholas Bubash ever cast, making it truly one-of-a-kind. Nick has become very widely collectable, including being added to the Library of Congress and the Carnegie Museum of Pittsburgh. He has a solo exhibition at the Warhol Museum in 2016 and received the prestigious NYC Acker award for Tattoo Art in 2016. Nick passed peacefully in November of 2021. So there will be no more sculptures of any kind. Own a piece of history with this tiger. NOTE: The marks on the tiger are the artist’s representation of the traditional stripes on the Bengal tiger.
