Description: This is a rare, small copperplate map of China by Gerardus Mercator and Jodocus Hondius published by Samuel Purchas in London in 1625. It's an important early map of China orientated with north to the right and with English text verso. Korea is depicted as an island. The southern islands of Japan, Taiwan and the northern part of the Philippines are also shown. Dimensions: Paper - 22 cm x 17.5 cm Condition: This map has been cleaned by a professional paper conservator whilst retaining the early colouring. Left and right sides have been strengthened with antique hand-laid paper. There is no damage to the printed area of the map. It is ready to be framed.
