Description: This is a rare find for fashionistas! This vintage Neiman-Marcus by Branell wool coat was a collaboration in the mid 1960s for those who were looking for quality mod fashion. Branell was a high-end line of dresses, suits and coats designed in New York by Hilda Altmark. Not inexpensive, the line was on par with other high-end labels, such as Originala, Harvey Berin and George Carmel. With its window-pane pockets, hip half belt, silk lining, and geometric pattern of tan, brown, and black - this single breasted, knee-length, button-down wool coat was fashionable and functional. It has the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU) label and registration number. Here is a bit of history on Union Labels: Union Labels - Vintage Fashion Guild ILGWU web site - Collection Guides Records (cornell.edu). The Neiman-Marcus label dates in the mid-1960s: Neiman Marcus - Vintage Fashion Guild The coat is a women's Small. It measures 3 feet in length and 16 inches wide across the shoulder. There are a few tiny stains on the front that are pointed out in the photos (they are very hard to see unless you are really looking for them). The coat does not have any odors or rips. All buttons and lining are intact. I bought this at a vintage store in Austin 30 years ago. The original Neiman-Marcus department store was started in Dallas, so it could have possibly come from there. I have never seen anything like it listed online, so it is a special find!
