They have some blemishes or pitting on the castings surface from storage over the years/decades. These fuel pumps come with a 2 year warranty and will last for decades if the engine is run regularly. They are a great value. These German Pierburg Square top fuel pumps are fully restored. All the pumps steel hard parts are inspected for wear. Any worn part is replaced. Each assembly screw is checked for damage before replating. If the screws are damaged, they are replaced with new and correct cheese head screws. The steel parts are then stripped of their old zinc plating. They are then re bright zinc plated. All mating/sealing surfaces are leveled on a milling machine. The valves are removed and then resealed. The castings are vapor blasted that removes any stains or surface corrosion and makes the castings finish look great. Brand new OEM Effbe ethanol rated diaphragms are installed on the original Pierburg assemblies. The lower main diaphragm assembly's are pre-loaded to spec during assembly. These Pierburg square top fuel pumps were originally installed from 1966 through 1971 on bugs, Ghias and some Type 3's running generators. They are used today on 1972-1975 VWs that came with the un-rebuildable, throw away pumps used during those years. They are the best fuel pumps for our VW's. They put out the correct 3 PSI fuel pressure. They have internal filter screens. The rocker pins are secured w/"C" clips so they don't back out like many of the new fuel pumps sold today, leaving you on the side of the road. I've sold many square top fuel pumps to folks running alternators. So, they do fit. You may have to lift the carb up slightly so the front carb mounting stud is out of the way if it's too long. Everyone states it only takes a couple of minutes to mount these square tops with their alternator equipped engines. A big issue with many of the new fuel pumps sold today is the wild variance in fuel pressure they put out depending on brand. Everyone who bolts a fuel pump on their engine should check the fuel pressure. Many new fuel pumps put out 6 psi or more. This creates all sorts of issues with the carb/carbs. These original German Pierburg pumps are miles ahead in quality of any new fuel pump pump sold today. I offer a two year warranty on these fuel pump rebuilds.
