Description: 100 Rare Heirloom Rhubarb seeds This very rare heirloom Rhubarb plant was shared from many generations by splitting the crowns. My original plant was given to me about 10 years by an older lady who owned a farm in Wisconsin. She has said it was in her family brought over by Bohemian families that settled in and about present day Kellnersville. WI Bohemian families brought over to the new land during the years 1852-1862. "Bohemian Settlement") This could be German wine variety, but not positive. It performs and looks like the popular Victoria variety. I have grown out many seeds to start new plants from this original rhubarb plant. The stalks are red younger and get green streaks as it gets larger. This is a sweet tart rhubarb not very stringy like some other varieties. Large leaves and a heavy producer. This heirloom perennial grows 2 to 4 feet tall with large, smooth, heart-shaped basal leaves. This heirloom produces abundance of seeds each year. Rhubarb is typically used for jam, sauces, or in pies or other desserts but it also works well as an accompaniment to savory foods. Starting rhubarb plant from seed, get started indoors. Soak the seeds for a few hours between wet paper towel, and then plant the seeds in good quality, sterile potting soil. Plant the seeds about 1/4 to 1/2 inch below the soil surface. Plant 2 to 3 seeds per divided section or per pot. The seedlings will take about 2 - 3 weeks to germinate. When the plants are about 4 - 6 weeks old, (and about 3 - 4" tall), begin to "harden off" the plants for about a week before planting them outdoors in the garden.
