Not a perfect copy, but a print would look amazing framed and on display. The defects would be virtually impossible to see. There is one 1/2 inch crease on the left side tint border. One 1/2 inch crease across of a tiny white cloud at the bottom of the image. One 1/4 inch crease in the sky just below a couple of the small background Dauntlesses. The image defects are so light that you’ll struggle to find them. Photos of the image and tint border defects are included to show that they are unlikely to ever be seen when the print is framed and on display. There are three light creases in the outer white border. However, this is a print that deserves to be framed and on proudly displayed, so those will be covered by the mat. SIZE: 26 by 36 inches SIGNATURES: Hand-signed and numbered by the artist Robert Taylor and an extra signature of THE DESIGNER OF THE DOUGLAS SBD DAUNTLESS Ed Heinemann and 4 Dauntless pilots who hit the Japanese carriers at Midway: DON ELYBombing SixUSS EnterpriseCV6 BILL ROBERTSRear Admiral, USNRVB-6 USS Enterprise EDWARD ANDERSONVB-6USS Enterprise DICK BESTC.O. Bombing SixUSS Enterprise Ed Heinemann Designer12-3-89 NUMBER: 270 / 1250 Certificate of Authenticity is included While this print is not in flawless condition, it is in very good condition, but the real attraction is the signatures. The Dauntless pilots have all expanded their signatures to include their squadron and carrier. It’s really too bad that wasn’t standard practice for all prints, because these signatures really pop. An incredible signature has been added to the four pilots who originally signed this print - Douglas SBD Dauntless designer Ed Heinemann. Heinemann is one of the true geniuses in aircraft design. A partial list of his designs includes the SBD Dauntless dive bomber, A-20 Havoc light bomber/attack aircraft, A-26 Invader light bomber/attack aircraft, A-1 Skyraider attack aircraft, A-3 Skywarrior bomber, A-4 Skyhawk light bomber, F3D Skyknight night fighter, F4D Skyray carrier-based fighter aircraft, Douglas Skystreak and Douglas Skyrocket research aircraft. Simply incredible! I saw one of these prints on display at the San Diego Air & Space Museum, and I believe that is where this special signing took place. This print with Heinemann’s signature is very rare. I have only seen another print signed by Heinemann one time. This stunning panorama vividly brings to life the minutes just prior to the decisive moment of the Battle of Midway. This battle would write the name of the SBD Dauntless dive-bomber into military history. The date was 4 June 1942, the time was 1010 hours, and the place was 20,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean 200 miles northwest of Midway Island. It was the calm before the storm. The Dauntless pilots are in luck. By a stroke of good fortune they have found the Japanese carrier fleet at its most vulnerable, decks packed with aircraft re-fueled, re-armed and almost ready to take-off. But as the Akagi, Kaga, Hiryo and Soryu begin to turn into the wind to range for take-off, the unthinkable happens. Plummeting out of the skies above them came the SBD Dauntless dive-bombers, flown by some of the most experienced pilots in the US Navy. Within seconds they will devastate the Japanese fleet, destroying half of the entire enemy carrier force. It was the beginning of the end for the Imperial Japanese Navy. Stored flat in a non-smoking, climate-controlled environment. Check my feedback - it's excellent. I ask for the same consideration from you. Please follow through on your bid and pay promptly.
