Description: "Robinson’s Atlas of The City of New York, Embracing All Territory Within Its Corporate Limits". Unrestored original and complete first edition, published in 1885. This is very well worn as can be seen in the pictures. (There were other editions showing just parts of the city – this one is the whole city of NY.) The spine is mostly gone, though many of the pages are still held together by the stitching. After the title page, there are two fold-out index maps that each take up two pages. After that are all 41 two-page plates showing the entire city of New York at that time (1885). There is substantial wear and crumbling to some pages, mostly near the beginning. At around plate ten or eleven the pages start to be held together and are in better shape. While the binding is largely deteriorated, the two-page maps themselves are in good shape, and could certainly be mounted individually if that was your choice. The maps are really quite amazing, and beautiful. A fantastic New York history lesson and a rare artifact. Very colorful, though color is certainly faded at this point. Size of each map is approximately 28” across by 19” tall. The book itself is approximately 15” wide by 19.5” tall. This belonged to my great-grandfather, who had a shipping business and other interests all around the NYC area in the mid to late 1800s. United States only please – no international shipping. ** I will ship this USPS Priority, with signature required and with insurance. Returns are fine with me if item is not exactly as described, though please look at the pictures carefully and ask any questions you may have. Thanks for looking!!
