Ron Schmidt creates metal wall hangings and free-standing sculptures using common cut cold rolled steel nails. He is in his 52nd year of exhibiting at art shows throughout the country. In the mid 1980's his peers gave him the title, "King of the Nail Sculptures". His work is suitable for exterior or interior use. Ron uses a welding/cutting torch and brazing allows such as nickel, silver, and silicone bronze in created his sculptures. The pieces are then finished with a multiple step process utilizing high air pressure and wire brushing. The finish is then protected by several layers of a metal coating preservative that prohibits tarnish or corrosion. The result is a finish that is maintenance free. His work has won numerous ribbons and cash and purchase awards for exhibitions. His work an be found in collections, corporate facilities, and galleries throughout the US and Canada. He has been commissioned by the Baker Industries, West Minister Bank, Audits and Surveys Inc, Mutual of NY, AT&T, Commercial Industrial Acoustics, Churches and Memorial walls and is shown at Merrill Chase Art Galleries in Chicago, the William Ris Gallery of Stone Harbor New Jersey, and the Margaret Smith Gallery in Ellicott City Maryland. He is also a part of the Chase Collection art collection. The artist is a native of Michigan and worked in Savannah, GA in teh 1960s.
