VERY RARE MOLD 157 HERTEL & SCHWAB CHARACTER BABYWITH CLOSED MOUTH &TONGUE TIP

Description: Today I’m offering one of my favorite German bisque character babies of all time. This face is so expressive, snd imbues this baby with a very realistic face; even though he is not flirting, smiling, crying, or making a face, his closed mouth gives him a realistic aspect. He appears to be a calm, restful baby, just content to be held. He was made in Germany by Hertel, Schwab, & Co. beginning in 1910 with their character series of babies and toddlers. Hertel & Schwab made heads for other Doll makers like Kley & Hahn, for example, and did not mark their bisque heads with anything but a number & sometimes size number and Made in Germany. This 18” baby is marked 157 with 10 below that, delineating the size. This is a super rare doll to find, and one of the features that make this baby so desirable is the beautifully molded closed mouth with slight tongue tip seen. The head is perfect with no damage, flaws, or repairs. Bisque is superlative—-satiny smooth and pure with delicate peachy complexion. Blue sleep eyes have lushly-painted lashes. 5-piece jointed composition baby body retains the original finish with less than normal wear. There is some wear and perhaps light touch-ups to the fingers but it is hard to tell. The baby retains the original cardboard pate and light brown mohair wig. All fingers and toes accounted for. The stringing is slightly loose but I don’t do any repairs myself so I just wanted to mention it. He sits and holds a pose well as you can see from my photos. Antique clothing is the original one-piece light romper and crocheted booties. Please consider the photos part of my description.
