DESCRIPTION Sam Rivers - “Sizzle” Impulse Records ASD-9316 (Stereo) from 1976. Hard to Find Original 1976 U.S. First Pressing Post-Bop / Fusion / Free Jazz album from Sam Rivers with backing from Ted Dunbar, Dave Holland, Barry Altschul and Warren Smith. In the Original Cover with No Cutouts, Promo markings or Barcode. Includes the Original Printed ABC Inner Sleeve. I believe this is a Terre Haute First Pressing as indicated by the Matrix / Runout Vinyl markings which read: Matrix / Runout (Runout side A, Etched): T1 ASD-9316-A (2) N3Matrix / Runout (Runout side B, Etched; “D” Stamped): T1 ASD-9316-B (1) D CONDITION The Sleeve is in okay shape. There is shelf wear, edge creasing and corner softening/wear. There is a small peel in the upper right corner. Still solid with no splits, stains, writing, cutouts, tears, etc. and would rate VG. The Vinyl itself is in clean Glossy condition looking pretty lightly played. If you look closely you can spot some light scuffs, marks and hairlines but no actual scratches i.e. something you can feel with a fingernail. At least a good VG and really I think VG+ visually and plays at least VG+ all through, mostly closer to EX or NM, with just a couple spots of faint groove noise and a couple random soft tics. Might be further improved with a better cleaning than I can give with my Discwasher brush. There is a black sharpie slash and a spot that looks like someone touched the label with a wet finger on the A-side but otherwise the labels are Near Mint. If I provide Play Grades it is done as a courtesy but I only guarantee the Visual Grade. If you are not familiar with this grading system (or even if you think you are!), please check it out before bidding. I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine's words: Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK. Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,... Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound. I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over twenty years on the net and I can count the returns I've had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But.... it also means that I don't issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. "That's not MY idea of a VG record!" - I don't know what your standards are and, as such, can't grade to them. I guarantee that items I sell will meet my description, nothing more or less!
