It has a 10″ base with adjustable “zero” handwheels. Travel: X=8.65″ (220 mm), Y=3.0″ (76 mm) Great if you already own a vertical milling column (P/N 3050/3053, 3480/3485 or 3580/3585) for use with your lathe. If you feel a sturdier base with a larger work area would be to your advantage, you may purchase the base of any of our vertical mills as an XY base. It provides the “X” and “Y” axes of movement in addition to the vertical or “Z” axis provided by the vertical milling column. This means an XY base plus a vertical milling column plus the headstock/motor unit from your lathe equals a complete Sherline mill. Remachining Your Older Milling Column Have an older vertical milling column? Return it to the factory for remachining. You can use it with an XY base rather than purchasing the entire vertical milling machine. (Email us for price.) (Vertical milling columns made after 1995 do not need to be modified.) Note that the 5220 base is for use with vertical milling columns that have the rectangular base. This combination saves you the amount of money included in the cost of the vertical mill for the column, but gives you the same machine less headstock and motor/speed control.
